Website Transition Update

You may remember earlier this year I remodeled my website and migrated my Google Blogspot blog to TheMarketingSpot.com. Thanks to my patient and diligent developer, AJ Morris, it was accomplished with only minor difficulties. Was it worth it? Let’s take a look at the numbers.

The official go-live date of the new website was February 28, 2011. Up until that point I was operating two websites: TheMarketingSpotBlog.com (my Google Blogger blog disguised as a website) and TheMarketingSpot.com, my own website. Using Google Analytics, I compared the past two months data with the combined data of both websites during the same time period of 2010. Here’s what I found:

  • 21.9% increase in traffic year-over-year (visits)
  • Pages per visit up from 1.47 to 1.69
  • Bounce rate down from 80.3% to 78.26%
  • Time on site increase from 1:18 to 1:29

There are other metrics, but these are the benchmark metrics. All of them showing improvement over the previous dual websites and that makes me happy. But, that’s not why I combined the sites. The primary reason for migrating my previous blog posts to the re-built website was ownership. Google used to own my blog. I was creating tons of content for Google, all separate from my website. Now I own everything and that makes me very happy!

The second reason for the this new website project was creating a premium content site: an online marketing learning center for entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Entrepreneurs Edge has yet to launch and that does not make me happy.

Thanks for your support of this website (just by arriving here you support it). Stay tuned for more.

The Marketing Spot Blog is Moving!

> After four years of residence on Google’s Blogger platform at www.TheMarketingSpotblog.com this blog will be moving to some spiffy new digs at my company website: www.TheMarketingSpot.com/blog. Not only am I moving the location of all future posts, but migrating all past posts (and hopefully all my search engine juice) to the new location. Sounds
