>Cleaning Out The Marketing In-Box

I’m getting ready to head off to PodCamp San Antonio this afternoon and I need to clean several items off my desk.

PODCAMP SAN ANTONIO

Looks like there will be about 100 podcasters at tomorrow’s “unconference.” Should be fun. Barring technical difficulties I will be tweeting from the event. You can follow me on Twitter to get the updates. When I get back, I’ll do a wrap up blog post. If I get the chance to present, it will be Branding Your Podcast.

Visit the official podcamp website to see the ongoing adventures of the Podcast Pickleman. It’s a series of videos created by Jennifer Navarette and crew.

HAPPY ONE YEAR FOLLOW UP

2007 Candles

In my self-celebratory One Year Anniversary post this week, I asked for you to let me know if you start blogging. Got some terrific and heart-warming emails from readers.

Joel Mier of Richmond, Virginia shared with me his Think for a Moment blog. Check it out, I love Joel’s headlines.

Eric Brown sent me this email (shared with permission)

Happy Birthday! Your post this night struck me, it would seem as though you have been blogging for much more than a year and that I have been reading blogs for much longer than a few months. I actually just started reading blogs recently, and in the last couple of weeks was asked to be a guest blogger on a site, and I have been thrilled with it.

Writing and or blogging is the farthest thing from my day job. I am a builder or was a builder, and have built some 12,000-14,000 apartment units over my career. Five years ago this July, I decided I wanted to create wealth, and set out from Corporate America on my own and created Urbane Apartments in Royal Oak, MI. I have no idea just yet if I will find the treasure, but am having a great time and learning a lot.

…My point here is that, I have been having a blast blogging the past few weeks at http://mbrewer.typepad.com/property_management/, where a fellow blogger, apartment maniac, Mike Brewer and I have become acquainted from me responding to his posts. I have no idea where this may lead, but a passion within is drawing me here. Urbane Apartments will be very successful, but I hope to also be among the respected bloggers soon too. I am not really sure how to do it or why to do it, other than I feel I have some things to say that others may find of value.

Sunday’s one year recap of The Marketing Spot became the most commented blog post of the past year. Thanks to all the well-wishers!

LOGOS

Alliance Logo

Marketers tend to over-analyze logos and that’s not good. Most small businesses get their logo from a professional marketer. There has been a warm debate this week on David Airey’s blog about the new logo for Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection. Some really insightful thoughts.

Previously, I’ve blogged about The Importance of a Logo in Branding and the tendency of marketers to engage in Logo Overthink.

This afternoon I will post another installment of reExperience Starbucks, our ongoing series with Becky Carroll and other bloggers. This week Starbucks was in the news with a bad earnings report, a cutback of new-store openings, and the introduction of new drink products. What do you think? I’ll let you know what I think this afternoon. Until then you might want to visit Brand Autopsy and see what John Moore has to say about it.

  • Turning Entrepreneurs into Marketers

Welcome to The Marketing Spot blog. I educate entrepreneurs by sending them back to marketing school. This blog is my free classroom. It’s where I educate you with the marketing smarts you need to transform an ordinary business into an awesome brand.

The material on this blog is organized around my 4-Spot Marketing Model, which I use to build marketing plans for my consulting clients. Because there’s a lot of stuff here, I’ve created a “freshman” Intro to The Marketing Spot course: The Marketing Spot 101.  I suggest you start there for a foundational understanding of the four essential spots of marketing.

If you would like personalized, one-on-one attention, my company coaches and consults businesses, helping them build a customized marketing plan that is easy to execute. I also provide a "course in marketing" for my clients. Learn more about my consulting and personal tutoring here: The Marketing Spot Coaching and Consulting. I also offer limited, online group coaching three times per year (group coaching is currently not accepting applications).

While this blog is free, I do accept payment for deeper knowledge, tools, and the online marketing courses I teach in The Entrepreneurs Edge. Grab some free marketing education here, get some ideas, and then get serious about transforming yourself into marketer in The Edge, or through some personal consultation.

    Be awesome!
