Classic Spot: The Importance of a Logo

Written on January 18, 2009 by Jay Ehret in branding, logo

A logo does not a brand make. So why did I recently pay a couple of hundred dollars on crowdSPRING to get a new logo for The Marketing Spot? I did it for me. I was building a new website and wanted to refresh the image. And because I don’t believe a logo defines the brand, I didn’t even choose the logo myself. Nope my friends and Twitter voted on the new Marketing Spot logo.

To clarify the the role of a logo, check out these classic posts:

The Importance of a Logo in Branding

The importance of logos in branding is overblown. Oh, they have their use…somewhat. But when it comes to branding, logos have nothing to do with the establishment of your brand. …read the full article: The Importance of a Logo in Branding.

How do you get a good logo? It’s not as difficult as you think, read The Elements of a Good Logo from April 2009.

Logos are not the brand itself, they represent something else. See what that is in this article, What a Logo Does from February 2010.

  • Turning Entrepreneurs into Marketers

Welcome to The Marketing Spot blog. I educate entrepreneurs by sending them back to marketing school. This blog is my free classroom. It’s where I educate you with the marketing smarts you need to transform an ordinary business into an awesome brand.

The material on this blog is organized around my 4-Spot Marketing Model, which I use to build marketing plans for my consulting clients. Because there’s a lot of stuff here, I’ve created a “freshman” Intro to The Marketing Spot course: The Marketing Spot 101.  I suggest you start there for a foundational understanding of the four essential spots of marketing.

If you would like personalized, one-on-one attention, my company coaches and consults businesses, helping them build a customized marketing plan that is easy to execute. I also provide a "course in marketing" for my clients. Learn more about my consulting and personal tutoring here: The Marketing Spot Coaching and Consulting. I also offer limited, online group coaching three times per year (group coaching is currently not accepting applications).

While this blog is free, I do accept payment for deeper knowledge, tools, and the online marketing courses I teach in The Entrepreneurs Edge. Grab some free marketing education here, get some ideas, and then get serious about transforming yourself into marketer in The Edge, or through some personal consultation.

    Be awesome!
