Age of Conversation 2: Why don’t they get it?

With all this Internet interconnectedness, some might call this the Age of Conversation. In fact, Drew McLellan, Gavin Heaton, plus 235 bloggers, marketers and conversationalists around the world have done just that. Thus, today you may purchase your copy of Age of Conversation 2: Why don’t they get it? It’s a collaborative book that not only explores this world of conversation, but also raises money for Variety, The Children’s Charity.

But is this really the age of conversation? That’s the question I explore in my 400 word contribution to the project. Each generation, by nature, is narcissistic: thinking that they are living in the most important times. But many people get along just fine without all the social media tools that allow conversations to take place all over the world. My wife is one of those people. And believe me, she talks just as much as I do. She just finds a way to do it without the Internet.

Last night, after I finished recording a conversation for a future Age of Conversation podcast, I went and told my wife: “I just had a conference call with seven people in four countries.” Her response: “Do you want some pizza? Are we going to watch House now?” Maybe my wife doesn’t get it, but she has her feet firmly planted on the ground.
