>What do you stand for?
(no emails on improper English, please)
Part of branding your business means deciding what you are going to stand for. You have to stake out a claim for an area of business that you want. Too often, a small business will try to market themselves by being all things to all people. The theory is, we don’t want to miss any part of our potential business. A serious problem develops when you try to be everything to everyone, you become nothing to anybody. You don’t stand for anything. Thus you can no longer have a valid brand.
You’ve heard or seen marketing efforts that sound like a laundry list of services offered. What have you learned about that business? Nothing substantial. Only that their doors are open and they have the same services that many other businesses do.To help remind you of this, remember that brand rhymes with stand. You can’t be everything to everybody. Give your marketing meaning. Make a stand.
So what do you stand for?
